I have a Dell XPS 2720 computer and Sims 3 was working perfectly fine until Windows pushed a Windows 8.1 update automatically. After it had updated, Sims 3 stopped working. I would load up the launcher, click pla, then get a message saying 'service initialization failed' and then the launcher would close itself.

I tried absolutely everything that was suggested on forums to solve this problem and try and get it working again, for example. • uninstalling then re-installing the base game and expansion packs • taking all of my custom content out • clearing the cache • using the 'super patch' • etc. It's definitely not a problem with the memory or the system requirements because the game actually worked before the Windows 8.1 update!! Please help me solve this problem and tell me why it's happening and what I need to do about it. We have logged 100's of hours on the Sims 3 on Windows 8.1 Pro x64 with no problems. PC 1: AMD Athlon X2 6400+, 8GB RAM, NVidia 8800GT, 640GB 7200RPM HDD PC 2: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66, 8GB RAM, NVidia 8800GT, 640GB 7200RPM HDD The quad Intel runs a little smoother (as expected), but both work just fine. Try this just for the heck of it: 1) Reinstall the latest driver for your video card 2) Download and run the DirectX updater for Dx 9.0C 3) Run the Origin client and then load the Sims 3 I hope this helps. We also run a lot of custom content from the Sims 3 exchange.

Hi all, I got a problem and that no one had. I had The Sims 3 and few expansion packs installed in Orgin a while back, playing now and then, all games updated and running smoothly. I got The Sims University Life installed today. It installed, updated and ran, but then it crashed. When I try to start it now The Sims Launcher starts up, I press play and nothing happens!?

I restarted and re-installed the game, I even uninstalled the latest expansion and tried running the game without it and its NOT WORKING! It looks like the latest update didn't exactly updated it. But broke it.
